This is it! I want to become a cartographer. I SO enjoyed the assignment of this week in my MATS-e-course. I’ve been drawing for many hours on this one. Of all the assignments, I enjoyed this one ABSOLUTELY the most. I just couldn’t stop thinking and drawing – sent the kids to my mum to draw all day and I almost didn’t stand up today. A real discovery – and I just got started! I discovered also that a lots of illustrators out there map the world in drawings, like on They Draw And Travel.
It’s a hell of a lot of work too, a map like this! The key is to find the right scale – I think I made the mistake of wanting to put too much on one map. But to be continued! Pure Joy! I share with you the final map and also some of the drawings that are included in the map.
Next in the list: my neighborhood Borgerhout.

Nice piece of mental mapping!
What a nice start, your stuff looks good. You’ll go further in your course.

Don’t say you ‘want’ to be a cartographer, with this map you ‘ARE’ one! I love maps (and art), and really like your style. This is one of the best blogs I have found through Freshly Pressed – I am now a happy follower.

When you’re passionate about what you do and focus time and effort, you can produce masterpieces.
I’m not good at reading conventional maps with my terrible sense of direction, but since I think visually, I do love illustrated maps like these.
Felt compelled to reblog this fellow WordPress blogger’s post about being a cartographer (in my mind an artist as well).
Loved this. You’re really talented 🙂

So nice. I am forwarding this to my niece who lives in Mumbai. I am sure she will take a few inputs from this. Mumbai is also a place where a lot of similar things can be done.
I love Antwerp (and Belgium). Coming back to Belgium next summer. Seeing these maps made me excited.
Nice! Colorful and original.

Great piece of work. I have just discovered the drone technology to get a different feeling on my photos of cities. But there is nothing that can match your creativity.
